Our Social Values Hits Bottom

Our social values have been slowly circling the drain for some four or five odd decades - and they've finally reach rock bottom.

People will have to be PAID now to take in their homeless friends and family in New York.
City Will Pay NYers To House Their Homeless Friends & Relatives
Staring down criticism from shelter-averse neighborhoods across the boroughs, the Department of Homeless Services says it's going to compensate thousands of families willing to take in their homeless friends and relatives next year with gift cards and rental subsidies. The so-called "Home for the Holidays" program, first reported by the Daily News, is intended to move 5,000 families who have been homeless for at least three months in with hosts. "This new City effort will reconnect homeless families with families and friends, assisting them to permanent housing," said DHS Commissioner Steven Banks in a statement.
Being paid to do your Christian duty and get off your ass to do the Christian thing for your friends and family?
And what the hell does 'reconnect' mean?

So, the idea is not to connect strangers: homeless people with people willing to give shelter to strangers for $$$. This is really to encourage family members to take in those relatives who have no longer homes?

I don't know what to say or think. The first is ridiculously dangerous. As for the second, I cannot even offer an opinion.
